A disappointing away loss to Kingsbury followed by a strong win at home over Reservoir summed up the mixed fortunes of our top side, which finished the season in the middle of the table.
Dave Tebbet reigned as our winningest skip with a total of 12 out of 17 for the season. In the last round he joined forces with Terry Dorgan for a strong 14-shot win.
Manny Martinez, who skipped for the last 5 rounds, suffered his only loss at Kingsbury before ending the season in grand style with a 19-shot win at home. Peter Jolley, our other success story for the season with 10 wins from 16 starts, ended the season with a mug-winning 24-shot win.
There’s still a lot of work to be done next season to get our top side up to Division 1. Our inability to beat any of the top 3 sides at home or away was a telling factor in our ultimate consignment to mediocrity for season 2007-08.

A thrilling home victory over Moonee Ponds in the last game rounded out an impressive 5 consecutive wins for our second side and left us in third spot on the ladder, albeit 25 points shy of promotion.
The Keith Bullock and Graeme Blamey rinks won both weeks, while Barrie Morton’s four had another big win in round 17, making them runners-up for the mugs for the second week in a row.
Our success over the season owed much to the efforts of veteran skips, Ken Docking and Keith Bullock. Ken had a horror start in round 1 but won his next 9 games as skip. When he went to the top side his place was taken by Bull who won 6 out of 7.
For most of the season the Docking/Bullock rink was led by the brilliant Gloria Marmo. It is worth noting that Gloria played 17 matches during the season, including 1 with the top side, and was on a losing rink only twice. Her husband, Ron, played second in 11 of those matches for 9 wins.
Bart Mineo also did well with 3 impressive wins from 4 starts before going up into the top side.
While we fell a bit short of promotion this season, the teamwork has been impressive and the signs are good for next year. |

With Broadmeadows and Reservoir breathing down our necks in the race to be promoted to Division 6, it was important to make short work of Moonee Ponds in round 17 and we did so with 3 rinks up. After an amazing season it was perhaps a bit of an anti-climax that our Sectional Pennant triumph was secured by Gladstone Park’s failure to field a side in round 18, but a Pennant is a Pennant.
The side benefited strongly from the presence of coach, Cam MacMillan, and the Bert Goad rink was also a mainstay for most of the season, though both skips suffered a mid season slump before regaining their usual form.
Undoubtedly the selectors’ master stroke was bringing Mick Costanzo down from the Seconds from round 11 onwards. In 6 minor round appearances as skip, Mick was successful all 6 times for a whopping combined 147 shots up and winning the mugs for best game an unprecedented 4 times in a row.
And so the club gained a Pennant, promotion to Division 6, and a tilt at the finals action. Unfortunately, the big flag wasn't to be ours this year with the side going down to Hampton Park by 6 shots in the first week of the finals.
Well done to everyone who played a part in the third side's success this season.

After a round 17 bye, the Fourths finished their season with a narrow loss to Craigieburn at Glenroy.
The fourth side should be commended for the way they have plugged away this season sometimes with barely enough players to even make a side. Our 8th position on the ladder is probably an accurate barometer of the playing depth of a club that struggles to field a side from week to week, but it’s pleasing to note that we saw action on 9 occasions, a significant improvement on last season.
Thanks must go to Norm Boreham, who sacrificed the opportunity to play at a level more in keeping with his ability as a bowler in order to provide leadership to our Division 8 team, and to stalwart members like Richard Tisher and Gil Kerr for their support. First season bowlers Gabby Harrison and Peter Stark gained valuable experience and we hope to see more of them in future years.
Heres hoping the new season brings new members and the fourth side can get out there even more often next season.
